Dallas, Texas (CaymanMama.com) New mothers with a sick baby, do not despair It is more common than you may think for infants to have diarrhea and is often attributed to a virus.
However, in some severe cases of diarrhea in young children, the situation can quickly become dangerous, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
If your child comes down with diarrhea, keep the following points in mind:
1. Do not panic Keep calm and consider all of the factors which may have attributed to the diarrhea in your infant.
2. If your newborn is younger than 3 months, do not waste time. Call your babys pediatrician at the first sign of diarrhea, the agency says.
3. Regardless of your babys age, immediately contact your childs pediatrician if you notice bloody diarrhea or an extreme bout that lasts longer than two days.
4. Think fluids, fluids, fluids Opt for a drink that contains electrolytes in order to prevent dehydration.
5. For young infants, do not stop nursing, and ask your pediatrician about administering extra fluids.
